I'm loving all the hints about Roshi being Jackie Chun when...it's beyond obvious to begin with.

Youko Kawanami is doing a pretty good job in her scenes so far and sounds pretty sexy, but only time will tell if I prefer her over Bailey. Honestly, despite my love for Bailey, this is probably my least favorite role for her. She came off too goofy and less sexy than I would have preferred for the character. As for Kaneto Shiozawa so far, holding my decision for him till later too, but I already note an odd quality to his voice that makes me think of his Jerry Jewell dub voice, so they did pretty good there.

I'm pretty sure all this stuff in the waiting room with the boys, Giran, and Namu is filler too, but I really enjoy it. It gives these characters that would otherwise be in and out as soon as their fights much more depth.

And so begins the downfall of Yamucha LOL. I like that he though to watch all of the contestants fight during the preliminaries though. It's weird, he doesn't really develop as a fighter so much as he falls...I mean, back in these days he's more thoughtful in his fights and studies his opponents. Later on he's horribly over-confident. What the heck's up with that?

Based on the subs, Yamucha has an inkling of who Chun really is a little bit before Yamcha ever does heh.

'So that explains it. That explains why he doesn't fit into a "gag anime".' *thumbs up* Yes!

This crying scene of Ranfan's perfectly showcases why I'm actually preferring Kawanami over Bailey. In the dub, it just sounds like Kid Trunks whine-sobbing to me, rather than her trying to sound weak and defense-less. It's not that I don't think Bailey does a good job in the dub, the acting is really good, but I'm just not sure I like her or the director's choice of voice when I know she could have pulled off a sexy character like this PERFECTLY.

As for Namu...hmm...other than the odd quality to their voices, Shiozawa and Jewell sound nothing alike. Jewell's, while good, sounds like a gag voice, which does fit in a way, but it's kind of the opposite of Nam, who's pretty much the most serious character in this entire gag show we've seen so far. His take makes me think of that one guy from the Simpsons that runs the Kwik-E Mart. Shiozawa however has that odd quality that I kind of like being there, but makes the character much easier to take seriously, so he wins in my book too.
