The first thing of note for me in this one (beyond more enjoyable Pilaf antics) is the appearance of Chi Chi, someone else who I wish had gotten to appear more in the main plot at this age. She's much more enjoyable now than she'll be later on in Z. As for her voice though, Mayumi Shou is doing a fine job, but so far it's another role where I'm much preferring the dub actress. Then again, it would take an AMAZING performance to make me prefer an original take over something Laura Bailey has done. That woman is amazing.

And the other new character for this episode has appeared just before I hit the halfway point, Gyu-mao. I was afraid that I'd find Gouri's performance here too similar to what I know of his Mr. Satan later on, but it's an incredibly different voice. It's hard for me to say at this point which voice I like more for the big guy, between Gouri and Hebert. Both have their charms, and both sound kinda like a big oaf. The drawback to Hebert's is that at times he sounds like a stupid oaf, while so far Gouri's just sounds like a really big guy. As of now though, I'd say they're about even in my mind.

Gotten a little further to the Yamucha and Chi Chi scene, where Yamucha tries to make Chi Chi think he likes her, and still Furuya's performance just doesn't do much for me. Shou's is growing on me a bit more, but still, nothing on Laura Bailey.

I'm beginning to wonder about Chi Chi's intelligence as a kid, compared to Goku's. Between her extremely low knowledge and loving of thoughts of dating, along with the 'My heart's as clean as a flushed toilet' line...

So the moment Goku did a pat-pat test on Chi Chi was the real moment she fell in love with him... *facepalms* Only Dragon Ball.

And with that, I leave off for now, having finished disc 1. I'll pick up again soon with the rest of the Gyu-mao story.
